Can be restored antique vintage instruments?
I have a very old dulcimer and a banjo. Both sound like screaming cats instead of musical instruments. Very years and I wondered: Is it better to get a review of the entire instrument, or just to get the strings replaced? I do not want the dollar value to download these for their restoration.
They tell us how many years "very old" is. 30-40 years is not "too old" – 100 + is. Just being old does not give value and in many cases detract until it is an antique. Conditions of play is what gives a true value musical instrument. Do not let a technician furniture or woodworker in general "fix" their instruments. Vintage instruments are restored in a position to play all the time. Some of the instruments playing best are quite old. A quality instrument should last almost forever with care. Dulcimer – If there is damage to the wood and the bolts are holding tension then only stringing. If the wood is damaged, such as separation joints or cracks in the soundboard or back then obtain tension off the ropes and have seen a specialist luthier. This is not an instrument for repair local music technology – it is very specialized. Is more near a piano than anything else. Repairing extensive damage to a hammered dulcimer can be incredibly expensive, often more costly than a new one. Just a string a proposal is not inexpensive.
