Standard, Extended, Block, two giant heads, Vintage, Legacy, built, draft Limited, sealed?
(For Magic the Gathering) Can someone explain to me what all these mean?
Bill is pretty close, but there are some things that need correcting. Note: From Fragments Alara is legal on October 3, I will use the format from that date. Block Constructed – collections of letters published in blocks (usually 3 games). The first set a block is released in October, while the latter is usually in May. In Block Constructed tournament, you can only use cards from that block one on your deck. Lorwyn / Mornintide / Shady / Twilight is one block (this is an exception to the rule 3) Standard – Also called type 2. It cosists of the core Current (10 meetings) and the two most recent blocks (Lorwyn / Shadowmoor and Alara). Whenever starting a new block, the oldest block rotates out. All the time a core set of the emergence of a new, replacing the current. Extended – Used to call 1.X. It consists of all cards in 8 editions 9, 10 and the following sections: Onslaught (Onslaught, Legions, Scourge) Mirrodin (Mirrodin, Darksteel Dawn, 5) Kamigawa (Champions, Betrayers, Saviors) Ravnica (Ravnica, Dissension Covenant Guilds), Time Spiral (Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, Future Sight) Lorwyn (Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide) Alara (Shards of Alara) Coldsnap is legal as well as a separate set. Legacy – Also called 1.5. Legacy uses every magical system that has no silver or gold border. It has a list quite large prohibited. Vintage – Also called type 1. Vintage used every Magic set that has no gold or silver border. It has a short list of large (which is limited to one on your deck) and a short list of forbidden (which usually involves physical skill and above). Sealed Deck – You get a tournament pack of 75 cards (45 cards, 30 land) and two envelopes. You must build a minimum of 40-card deck, including land. Project – Opens a booster pack, choose a card and spend the rest of the pack to the left. Continue until the first set of packages are fully developed. The second package is passed to the right, and the third to the left. You must build a minimum of 40 cards including land cover. Two giant heads – Both you and your opponent are on the same team, taking their turns at the same time. His team starts with 30 lives. Built – Built a rating category. The monitoring of all DCI-sanctioned tournaments, and assigns each player a rating. The category building is used for Block, Type 2 and extended tournaments. Eternal – A category that includes scores for Legacy and Vintage. Limited – a category that includes grades sealing of the cover and the project.
