What is my collection of 50 th anniversary Wizard of Oz plates really worth?
I have the entire collection from 1989, all 8 of 8.5-inch plate with 23 karat gold rims, the artist Thomas Blackshear … all certificates and original boxes, and I have (I think it is 12 inches, I will have to check) Plate 50 years … a site was selling the entire collection for $ 449, originally $ 499 … an idiot is selling individual plates for $ 20 on eBay, I have no idea what's really worth! If anyone has an idea how much I could go please let me know!
I would like have better news for you ……. Not much, unfortunately. Most sell for less than it originally sold for. Hopefully you've bought the game because I enjoy it, no as an investment. Everything is sold as a "collection" is mass produced and sold [even so-called sets of numbers], so the rarity simply does not exist. If offered on television, for example, offer "rare collection of" items for $ 10? I do not think so. How many are needed to selling just break even after producing a commercial and buy airtime? After breaking the current owner or losing theirs, may be worth more than another 25 years but with the internet, the real prices of goods have fallen sharply, as they are no longer limited by searching through flea markets, someone everyone has one and only you can send to you [more competition has driven prices down]. Do a search on eBay for your item, not the asking price, but it actually sold. This will give you a vague idea. Maintain and enjoy their dishes.
