Rose Trellis
"I can plant a climbing rose in front of a standard wooden fence?
I thought I'd try and either tie it to the fence as they grow or place a trellis behind it. I imagined that spreads and covers the fence. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
Yeah sure there is enough sunlight, and they need a minimum of 6 hours to get it right. Plant at least a foot, but two of the fence to allow it to grow well and lean toward the fence. Prune branches from the front or back that are too rigid to bend sideways, and that either is closed (if fence side) or a stick on the way (if forward). Want create a pleasant climb to get the best flowers. Make sure the soil is prepared for the first time with a load of good old manure / compost and when the plant add a small amount of blood, fish and bone in the hole. This will give the roots a good start. I think growing up in the cables is the best. You do not want growing through a trellis, fence. Where are going? It is not for climbing, do not have offspring, you need the link as if you use spacers and cables at regular intervals until the fence is easy to prune and arranged when necessary. This also makes it easy to go down the sides and tie. This is the best method for making the rose to produce most of the flowers.
