Retro Christmas Memories Mid-Century Modern
Christmas is a retro your best bet for vintage Christmas decorations?
If you remember when a tree with silver mesh openings of pink or blue was the height of elegant holiday …. if the sound of Alvin and the Chipmunks singing "Please Christmas Do not Be Late still gives a thrill of anticipation …. if you can remember listening to his father explains that the lights of the bubble had to take time to heat before bubbles begin …. then the answer would be yes.
For the generation Babyboom and mid-century modern is more than a style of decoration, it is our children. Tinsel tree bubble lights, and the squirrels are just such an important part of our youth and linoleum floors, Formica dinettes, black and white television, and the joy of a new batch of Jiffy Pop bubble directly aluminum.
But over-fifties not the only ones who appreciate the classic fifties style. mid-century modern is becoming one of the most popular new styles in decoration interior, and a lot of 20 – and 30 and many are embracing with enthusiasm. In a way that few of us who grew up with them completely can understand, plastic furniture Bean bag chairs have become fashionable again.
To retrieve the fun of the fifties and sixties in holiday decor, here are some tips to make it happen:
Think fun, not annoying
Retro Christmas decoration is based on the modern look that is so much vogue during the period after the war. Sleek and exciting new space-age materials (like plastic) were in vogue, and the tradition was giving way to innovation. Fussy details were out and aerodynamic design stain was, for everything from cars to Christmas tree balls.
Use bright colors and bold designs
Vibrant, bright colors and bold, just cartoonishly graphic designs are the hallmarks of mid-century Modern decor. This translates very well to the Christmas decorations, and retro-themed fabric and holiday decorations breeding season are relatively easy to find.
Do not forget the characters
Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and of course Santa and his elves all the characters are very popular during the Christmas season in the fifties and sixties. Whether molded candles, stamped plastic and hung on the tree, or becomes a plug-in, display lights for the front yard, nice characters, Christmas cartoons definitely add a touch of fun and a retro touch.
Electrify it!
Although the shops and public places had been using strings of lights and decorations Christmas from the end of 1800, electrically illuminated decorations did not become standard for average home owners to post-war period.
