Panels
The new world of upholstery, all of which measures 267 feet x 4 feet (81.3 mx 1.2 m), consists twenty-four panels, each representing the story of a particular stage in the period between 1583 and 1642.

The creation of the carpets
The designer was Tom Moore, who also designed the tapestry Prysten Plymouth House, Plymouth, adventurers from Virginia (London) trim, and was the consultant in the tapestry of Jersey Liberation (St. Helier, Channel Islands) and the tapestry of Plympton (Plympton, Devon). The group was investigated by Tom Moore, Tom Maddock, Presswell Paul and Freda Simpson. Joan tapissiers Roncarelli Chief Harvey and René. A New World Tapestry Web site was developed in December 2008 and will soon include 120 pages, showing all full panels.
Research for the New World Tapestry twenty-four panels began in 1980. Tom Moore was joined by Tom Maddock, a friend retired from Ivybridge. Over the months that traveled hundreds of miles together, research, and two hundred sixty four persons to be appointed in the tapestry. Paul Presswell heraldry experts identified Buckfastleigh all coats of arms of the people, schools and companies involved. The result has been the creation of the tapestry with a library of files for each person and a collection of reference books of great use to researchers, scholars and teachers.
Two hundred sixty-four coats of arms are over the top wallpaper borders and lower its entire length, alternating with pictures of the same number of flowers of herbs, medicinal plants, trees and shrubs. The latter are shown because the settlers alls are ointments and healing with them on their travels and plant hunters returned with things like potato and snuff.
All flowers and flower shows were extracted nature by Tom Mor, who studied them in a watch glass. He was helped from the early days of Freda Simpson, of Plymouth, who was passionately interested in herbs and old herbal remedies. Was identified and given more than 230 specimens of flowers in the years that Moore lived with his wife and family in Plymouth. He later moved to Cambridge where he was able to complete the set of 264 pictures with the help of Clive King and Lawes Carolina, University of Cambridge Botanic Garden, Lady Jane Renfrew Lucy Cavendish College, Alison Davies, Monica Stokes and Edna Norman.
Sewers
Tom Moore could not have seen his paintings brought to life without the help of friends and experience of dedicated tapissiers. When the first point made in the tapestry of the New World in 1980, the team in Prysten House numbered 20. By the time the last point was made in March 2000 the number had increased to 256 tapissiers with the addition of eight centers. In Devon there was a second at HMS Drake in Plymouth (the Royal Navy panel), Ivybridge, Chillington, Exeter, Bideford, Totnes and Tiverton Castle. Dorset upholstery center was at the Guildhall in Lyme Regis and it was there that the Great Lawn and Herbalists panel was sewn.
Slanted Gobelin The first point was made on 26 September 1980 Prysten House in Plymouth, U.S. ambassador by the Hon. Kingman Brewster. The shield arms of his predecessor VE, Pilgrim leader William Brewster, appears in the panel of 1620 Mayflower.
Slanted Gobelin The last point was made by His Royal Highness Prince Carlos, on March 3, 2000 in the Garden of the rooms in your home at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Most appropriately, his interest in history and a willing gardener himself, the prince put his point of gold wool on the date the 1642 Great gardeners and herbalists Group.
Stitches have been added by HM the Queen, Her Majesty The Queen Mother, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, HRH The Princess Royal and His Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester.
